June 13th five weeks old

Week 5 more than half way there. Hmmmm, Well it been interesting.
I enlarged the pen, and one of the chickens got out and flew around the barn
took me an hour to finally get her back into the pen.

I started enlarging the "Recreation Yard" on the main chicken prison
I keep thinking of the movie "Chicken Run". Anyway I had a friend come over
and help me with the constructions. All that is left is to put the chicken wire
on the frame that we built.

When I first got the chicks one of the hens that I already
had decided to start setting on her eggs. She had 2 that hatched
So I had to separate her from the rest of the chickens.
So when my friends came up I was going to show their kids the new chicks
and I could not find one. They had escaped the little pen they
were in and all I could find is the hen and one of the chicks
cowering in the corner and the other hens ganging up on her.

She would not leave the corner. I thought I heard peeping, but
could not find where it was coming from. I put the hen and the
one baby back in her little pen and sent to get some more help.
We could hear peeping from the one chick in the chicken coop
but I could also hear peeping else where. After about 20 minutes
of searching and listening really close, we found the other chick
on the other side of the barn! Nearly 20 feet and through a doorway.

And now for more pictures

Yep the watch sheep are still watching

Here Elvis the Rooster. Still looking good with 4 hens,
we will see if he survives 20 hens!
Since he is a bantam, some of the new hens will be bigger than him

Molly a Red/White hen is of unknown breed. She lays light brown eggs
which are about AA size. Not exactly sure how one grades eggs.
In front is Lisa Marie, a gold lace cochin bantum. The first chick
we successfully hatched from Elvis and Prisilla
(My wife is the chicken namer, I wonder who was her favorite singer?
or does a rooster just look like Elvis?)

On to the babies.

Aw man if I only had a comb!

I got one, but I am not letting you use it!

And Construction begins.
Just add chicken wire and it is an instant chicken prison!

Actually when they are older, we are going to try to free range them.
I am kind of worried about the Red-Tail and Red Shouldered hawks getting
them if we free range them.
